North Frisian cycle tour
Round tour along the dike to the "Red Haubarg"
Distance: 14.2 km | Duration: 0:57 h | Difficulty: easy
Holiday idyll for families, nature lovers and birdwatchers: cycle along the dike to the Wester Spätinge nature reserve while enjoying the fresh North Sea air. The circular route continues in the direction of Uelvesbüll through a landscape shaped by storm tides to the historic Red Haubarg near Witzwort.
Note: To access certain sections of the dike, some gates have to be opened. It is therefore easier in pairs.
The varied, easy route takes you along the dike, past the Wester Spätinge nature reserve. Enjoy the wide view of the Wadden Sea on the seaside and observe the birdlife of the nature reserve with its marsh and water areas on the land side.
Before reaching Uelvesbüll, follow the route inland to the "Porrendeich" with its thatched farmsteads. The idyllic ponds near the dike are a reminder of countless dike breaches and water masses from the many storm tides.
The Red Haubarg was once a historic farm house from the 17th century. Today the building is a restaurant and museum. With coffee and cake, the stay is an experience for all ages.
